Brexit Day: What’s next for the UK and the EU?
It’s Brexit Day, the last day of the UK’s membership of the European Union. The divorce is done; now comes the custody battle. The next stage begins with an 11-month transition period. Officials will start negotiating a new relationship between the UK and the remaining 27 EU nations. The UK is as divided in its reactions as it was at the time of the vote to leave. DW’s Georg Matthes spoke with British-German MEP David McAllister about what the transition means for the EU and the UK.
