Do supermajors have an obligation to society, and the planet?

Over the past year, high energy prices have brought massive profits for global fossil fuel producers – the five biggest energy companies in the US and Europe earned more than $200bn in profit in 2022. But what are they doing with all that money, and what are the ethical implications around this – as it relates to their role in the transition to a cleaner energy system, and society as a whole?
