EU leaders launch tough talks on post-coronavirus economy

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is among the EU leaders participating in a video-conference to discuss a future budget and plans for an unprecedented 750 billion euro coronavirus recovery fund. Called ‘Next Generation EU,’ the fund aims to help the bloc emerge intact from the worst economic straights since the Great Depression. The virtual summit is the first step in what are expected to be difficult negotiations.
