EU Transport Commissioner: ‘Social distancing is recommended but not compulsory in airplanes’
Adina Valean was until November 2019 an MEP for Romania’s Liberal party. Since then, she’s served as European Commissioner for Transport – and since early spring 2020 she’s been part of the coronavirus response team, as the deadly pandemic saw member states shut their borders, airlines ground their fleets and thousands of Europeans stranded away from their home countries. Valean spoke to FRANCE 24 about the EU Commission’s guidelines for travel during the Covid-19 pandemic this summer, the risk of some airlines going bankrupt and the rights of passengers whose trips have been cancelled.
