Far-right Le Pen challenges Macron for French presidency
“Nothing is impossible,” President Emmanuel Macron has warned, as polls suggest his far-right rival Marine Le Pen is closer than ever before to winning the presidency. A month ago Le Pen was trailing President Macron by 10 points and fighting for a place in the second round against him but now she’s seen as the clear favourite to challenge him for the presidency after Sunday’s first round. Marine Le Pen has led the Front National party for years since taking over leadership from her father. If she does make it through to the next run-off election opinion polls suggest for the first time that a Le Pen victory could be possible.
