Afghanistan: MEPs to hold emergency meeting to discuss state of play
Following events unfolding in Afghanistan, MEPs will meet on Thursday morning to debate the latest developments with High Representative Josep Borrell.

The Foreign Affairs and Development Committees, together with the Delegation for relations with Afghanistan, will hold an extraordinary joint meeting on Thursday 19 August with Josep Borrell, EU High Representative/Vice-President of the European Commission.
In a statement released on Tuesday, 16 August, David McAllister, Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Tomas Tobé, Chair of the Committee on Development, and Petras Auštrevičius, Chair of the Delegation for relations with Afghanistan deplored the “political, military and moral calamity in Afghanistan.” They called on “all parties to secure and facilitate the safe and orderly departure of foreign nationals and Afghans who wish to leave the country”, adding that Europe bears a “moral responsibility for those who have worked for the EU’s entities, for NATO partners and other international and civil society organisations.”
