Commissioner Breton travels to the Republic of Korea to boost Digital Partnerships, engage on AI and platform regulation and meet with CEOs of strategic industries CEOs
Today and tomorrow, Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton is travelling to Seoul.
Today, he will participate in a lunch with the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea and representatives of the European digital industry. He will then meet with Dukgeun Ahn, Minister for Trade, Industry and Energy to exchange views on economic security, industrial and digital files, including semiconductors and Artificial Intelligence. Later in the day, the Commissioner will meet with Samsung Electronics Chairman, Lee Jae-Yong, to discuss the EU Chips Act.
Tomorrow, Commissioner Breton will co-chair, with Minister for Science and ICT, Lee Jong-ho, the first Ministerial EU-Korea Digital Partnership Council Meeting. This meeting will notably focus on AI and platform regulation, discussing EU’s flagship regulation AI Act, Digital Services Act, Digital Markets Act, Digital Governance Act and newly-approved Data Act. He will then deliver a keynote speech for the EU-RoK High-level Cyber Security Conference. The Commissioner will also visit Hanwha Aerospace’s Headquarters in Seoul and meet CEO Jea-Il Son to share views on ammunition procurement.
Commissioner Breton will then pursue his tour in Asia, traveling to Japan to hold a series of high-level meetings.
