Commissioner Breton visits Finland to pursue discussions on the European defence industrial strategy
Today and tomorrow, Commissioner for Internal Market, Thierry Breton, is travelling to Finland as part of his EU defence tour.
Today, Commissioner Breton will visit a defence equipment production site. On Tuesday, he will exchange with the Minister of Defence, Antti Häkkänen, before meeting with the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb. The discussions will focus on the EU’s defence readiness, the increase of defence equipment and the defence industrial ramp up.
In March, the Commission presented a European Defence Industrial Strategy (EDIS), together with a European Defence Industry Programme (EDIP). This ambitious set of new actions aims to support the competitiveness and readiness of its defence industry. The objective is to ensure a long-term and structural strengthening of the European defence industrial base to continue both to provide military support to Ukraine and to ensure the security of Member States.
