Commissioner Schmit in Berlin to consult with government and social partners

Commissioner Nicolas Schmit, in charge of Jobs and Social Rights, travels to Berlin tomorrow, on 17 January. He will hold a number of bilateral meetings, including with Federal Minister for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, Franziska Giffey, and with the Federal Secretary of Education and Research, Christian Luft. He will also meet the President of the Federation of German Industries (BDI), Dieter Kempf, and the Deputy Managing Director of the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), Achim Dercks. The Commissioner will also take the opportunity to meet Members of the Employment Committee of the German Parliament. The Commissioner’s visit comes following this week’s presentation by the Commission of its Communication on building a strong social Europe for just transitions.
