Commissioner Wojciechowski in Berlin to participate in the International Green Week and the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture

Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski is in Berlin today until 21 January to participate in the international trade fair for food, agriculture and horticulture, known as the International Green Week, and the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA), a leading international conference on key issues for the future of the global agriculture and food industry. The theme of this year’s event is “Securing Food. Protecting Nature”. With the illegal and unprovoked aggression of Russia in Ukraine, the challenge of securing food has never been so significant for Europe. In this context, Commissioner Wojciechowski will discuss how to make Europe’s food systems more resilient and fit for the future.

He will deliver a speech at the International Green Week opening ceremony and attend the reception of the Global Forum For Food and Agriculture, organised by the German ministry for agriculture. On Friday, he will host a high-level panel on “Agriculture in the New Normal”.  On Saturday, Commissioner Wojciechowski will attend the Global Forum For Food and Agriculture Ministerial Conference and take part in the press conference at around 13:30.

During his visit in Berlin, he will hold several bilateral meetings, including with Murray Watt, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry of Australia; Tetsuro Nomura, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan; and Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food of Canada.

The European Commission will welcome the fair’s visitors on its stand presenting the EU policies and actions to support a fair, healthy and environmentally-friendly food system.
