Discussion with Frances Haugen on the global impact of the Digital Services Act

Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee MEPs will discuss the impact of the recently agreed Digital Services Act (DSA) and the Digital Markets Act (DMA) with Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen. The discussion will focus in particular on how the Digital Services Act could set the global benchmark for regulating online platforms in the future.
The discussion with Ms Haugen will also feed into the preparation of the committee’s visit to Silicon Valley (23-27 May), where MEPs will directly exchange with tech companies, local authorities and academia.
Beforehand, MEPs will take stock of the main achievements of the DSA and DMA negotiations with France’s Secretary of State for the Digital Transition and Electronic Communications Cedric O.
The new rules aim to defend European values, democracy and fundamental rights online and could reshape the online world dominated by so-called “gatekeepers”.
