Economic and monetary union: President Donohoe’s report to the President of the Euro Summit
The President of the Eurogroup, Paschal Donohoe, has sent a letter to the President of the Euro Summit, Charles Michel. The letter takes stock of the progress achieved on key policy issues relevant for the recovery and for the smooth functioning of the economic and monetary union.
The letter will inform the discussion that leaders will hold at the Euro Summit of 25 June 2021.
Over recent months, the Eurogroup has regularly discussed economic challenges arising from the Covid-19 crisis and has continued close coordination on the policy response to the pandemic, to drive the recovery.
The Eurogroup also looked beyond immediate recovery needs and focussed on the conditions for a stable and prosperous euro area economy. For that purpose, euro-area finance ministers have continued work on:
– Strengthening the international role of the euro;
– Driving long-term structural changes to the euro-area economy;
– Considering the possible introduction of a digital euro;
– Advancing the Banking Union.
