Eurogroup and Ministers for Economic and Financial Affairs meet in Brussels on 15-16 May
Euro area and EU Finance Ministers will be in Brussels today and tomorrow for Eurogroup and ECOFIN meetings.
Today, Executive Vice-President Dombrovskis and Commissioner Gentiloni represent the Commission at the Eurogroup meeting that will start at 15:00. The Commission will present its Spring Economic Forecast. Ministers will exchange views on the international aspects of central bank digital currencies and the progress on the digital euro project. They will follow up on the March Eurosummit and the Eurogroup President will present his views on how to advance on the Capital Markets Union. Ministers will also discuss the way forward and give their views on an indicative plan for future work on this topic.
Commissioner Gentiloni will attend the press conference following the meeting at around 18:30.
Tomorrow, Executive Vice-President Dombrovskis, Commissioners Gentiloni and McGuinness will represent the Commission at the ECOFIN Council meeting.
The meeting will start with an economic and financial dialogue between the EU, the Western Balkans and Türkiye, aiming to endorse joint conclusions. Ministers will then aim to agree their position on the ‘DAC8′ Directive concerning administrative cooperation in the field of taxation. The Commission will present its proposals on the review of the Bank Crisis Management and Deposit Insurance framework. Participants will also discuss the economic and financial impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine, focusing on customs-related issues. Finally, they will take stock of the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Facility and exchange views on the demand for RRF loans.
Executive Vice-President Dombrovskis will participate in the press conference, which will take place around 13:30.
