Commissioner for the Economy, Paolo Gentiloni, will on Monday 21 September host an interactive online event on ‘Fair and Simple Taxation’, kicking off at 16:00 CET with a debate between the Commissioner, German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz, and MEP Irene Tinagli, Chair of the European Parliament Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs. Fair taxation remains a top priority for the European Commission, as a means of protecting public revenues, which will play an important role for the EU’s economic recovery in the short-run and prosperity in the long-run. The event follows the Commission’s Tax Package presented in July. The event will give participants the opportunity to find out how tax policies can support recovery and improve the tax environment in the EU. It will engage tax experts from national authorities, businesses, NGOs and academia in an exchange of views on such topics as aggressive tax policies, tax compliance or modernisation of tax systems. The event will be streamed live on EbS and you can also follow the event on DG TAXUD’s Twitter and YouTube accounts. Questions can be asked online through Slido (Event code: ‘FairTaxationEvent’).
