Economic and Financial Affairs Council, 8 October 2024

The Council will discuss the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Facility. Ministers will discuss the economic and financial impact of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The Council will be expected to approve conclusions on climate finance and on the revision of the EU list of non-cooperative jurisdictions for tax purposes.

Justice and Home Affairs Council (Home affairs), 10 October 2024

Ministers of home affairs will aim to reach agreement on a legislative proposal to combat child sexual abuse. They will also take stock of the overall state of the Schengen area and discuss returns of irregular migrants and rejected asylum seekers.

Justice and Home Affairs Council (Justice), 11 October 2024

Ministers of justice will exchange views on the implementation of the Commission’s antiracism action plan and discuss access to justice in the context of rule of law and competitiveness.

Environment Council, 14 October 2024

EU environment ministers will meet in Luxembourg to approve conclusions on the EU’s position in view of the upcoming UN conferences on climate change and biodiversity.

Foreign Affairs Council, 14 October 2024

The October Foreign Affairs Council will discuss the Russian aggression against Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East.

Over lunch, EU Foreign Affairs Ministers will have an informal exchange of views with the United Kingdom Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, David Lammy.

General Affairs Council, 15 October 2024

Ministers will continue preparations for the October European Council. They will also focus on EU-Switzerland relations, combating antisemitism and the 2024 European Semester.

Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council (Energy), 15 October 2024

EU energy ministers will meet in Luxembourg to discuss energy’s contribution to the EU’s competitiveness, wholesale electricity prices and winter preparedness. The implementation of REPowerEU and Fit for 55 will also feature on the agenda.

European Council, 17-18 October 2024

EU leaders will meet in Brussels to address the following topics: Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and the EU’s support to Ukraine and its people, the situation in the Middle East, migration, EU’s competitiveness, EU’s position ahead of COP29 and other foreign policy issues.
