In-depth review of EU energy policies: Commissioner Simson to discuss IEA report and EU recovery plans
At an online event co-hosted with the International Energy Agency (IEA) later today, Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson will discuss the IEA’s In-Depth Review of the EU’s energy policies. The Review, released today, states that the EU is on track towards a cleaner and more resilient energy future, and continues to show global leadership in reducing its greenhouse gas emissions. The IEA Review will be officially presented at the event by Executive Director, Dr Fatih Birol. Commissioner Simson said today: “The IEA’s review of EU energy policy comes at a crucial moment, as we debate the investment priorities for our economic recovery and the future EU budget. The review supports the Commission’s firm commitment to a green recovery, which is at the heart of our Next Generation EU proposal for a €750 billion recovery plan. We will continue to work closely with the IEA as we design European policies to transform our energy sector and at the same time provide jobs, growth and better quality of life.“ The Review notes the strong potential of the Commission’s new Recovery plan to boost economic growth, create new jobs and support the clean energy transition.
