MEPs to debate Digital Single Market strategy on Tuesday
The vision and specific steps needed to unlock the potential of the EU digital single market will be debated by Internal market and Industry MEPs on Tuesday afternoon. As the internet and mobile communications are revolutionising the ways in which users and businesses communicate, invest, consume and share, the EU is looking at how best to harness their power to boost growth and jobs. The debate starts at 15.00.
Parliament is preparing its response to the Digital Single Market strategy presented by the EU Commission on 6 May. A draft report by rapporteurs Eveline Gebhardt (S&D, DE), for the Internal Market Committee, and Kaja Kallas (ALDE, ET), for the Industry Committee, focuses on consumer protection, affordable cross-border parcel delivery, geo-blocking, and online platforms.
A recent study commissioned by the European Parliament says that a fully-functioning EU digital single market could generate €415 billion each year.
