Migration management: First meeting of the High-Level Network for Return
Today, the EU Return Coordinator, Mari Juritsch, chairs the first meeting of the High-level Network for Return. The High-Level Network for Return is composed of representatives from all EU Member States, Schengen Associated States and the Frontex Deputy Executive Director for Return Operations. The Network will support the Return Coordinator in identifying priority activities to develop national frameworks, improve administrative and technical capacities to carry out returns, as well as enhancing cooperation between Member States and Frontex. The EU Return Coordinator was appointed on 2 March 2022 to establish an effective and common European return system. The appointment of the Return Coordinator has been one of the main novelties of the New Pact on Migration and Asylum to improve the return governance and coordination of actions between the EU and the Member States. The EU Return Coordinator and the High Level Network for Returns also play an important role in the development of the EU Strategy on voluntary return and reintegration, proposed by the Commission in April 2021.
