Opening – EP demands that incarcerated journalists be released

President Tajani expressed Parliament’s support to journalists incarcerated in Venezuela and paid tribute to those who lost their lives in December’s Strasbourg attacks.
Earlier in the afternoon, President Antonio Tajani presided over the ceremony in which the EP’s radio studio was named after Antonio Megalizzi and Bartosz Orent-Niedzielski, two journalists killed during the Strasbourg attacks in December. A commemorative plaque was unveiled in their name. At the opening of the session in Strasbourg, MEPs paid tribute to the families of the two journalists, who were present in the chamber.
The Parliament is watching what is happening in Venezuela closely, said President Tajani, asking for journalists incarcerated in the country to be immediately released.

The Oral Question on “Large predators” will be turned into a Commission statement. The debate will be wound up with a resolution, to be voted on in March I.
Tuesday
An Oral Question to the Commission on “The future of the LGBTI List of Actions (2019-2023)”, with resolution to be put to the vote on Thursday, is added to the agenda and will be taken in a joint debate on “The rights of intersex people”, together with the Oral Question on “The rights of intersex people”.
Wednesday
A VPC/HR Statement on “The future of the INF Treaty and the impact on the EU” will be added as a first item in the slot 18:00-24:00, with resolution.
Council and Commission statements on “Security threats connected with the rising Chinese technological presence in the EU and possible action on the EU level to reduce them” will be added in the afternoon or in the evening; The debate should be wound up with a resolution, to be voted on in March.
Requests by committees to start negotiations with Council and Commission
Decisions by several committees to enter into inter-institutional negotiations (Rule 69c) are published on the plenary website.
If no request for a vote in Parliament on the decision to enter into negotiations is made by Tuesday 24.00, the committees may start negotiations.
