President von der Leyen in Berlin for the Vaccine Equity for Africa event and the G20 Compact with Africa Conference
Today, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, is travelling to Berlin, Germany. The President will first attend the Vaccine Equity for Africa event organised by BioNTech and the kENUP Foundation. In the context of this event, the President will meet with Macky Sall, President of Senegal, Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda, John Nkengasong, Director CDC African Union, Werner Hoyer, President of the European Investment Bank, Matshidiso Rebecca Moeti, Regional Director for Africa at the World Health Organization as well as Uğur Şahin, CEO of BioNTech, and Holm Keller, Executive Chairman of the kENUP Foundation. The President will then attend the G20 Compact with Africa Conference. The G20 Compact with Africa was launched in 2017 under the German G20 Presidency to promote private investment in Africa. The President will give a speech during the working session focused on framework conditions for business and investment which starts at 16:30 CET and can be followed live here. In the evening, she will participate in a dinner hosted by German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel. The President will also bilaterally meet with Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda, Cyril Ramaphosa, President of South Africa, and Nana Akufo-Addo, President of Ghana, in the margins of those events.
