Statement by the High Representative on behalf of the European Union on the alignment of certain third countries with Council Decision (CFSP) 2024/3187 of 16 December 2024 amending Decision 2014/512/CFSP concerning restrictive measures in view of Russia’s actions destabilising the situation in Ukraine
On 16 December 2024, the Council adopted Decision (CFSP) 2024/31871.
Council Decision (CFSP) 2024/3187 introduced further restrictions in view of Russia’s actions destabilising the situation in Ukraine, among others, targeting 52 new vessels from Russia’s shadow fleet, as well as combating sanctions’ circumvention by adding 32 new companies to the list of persons and entities supporting Russia’s military and industrial complex in its war against Ukraine. The Decision also increases the legal protection of EU Central Securities Depositories (EU CSDs).
Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway and Ukraine align themselves with this Council Decision.
They will ensure that their national policies conform to this Council Decision.
The European Union takes note of this commitment and welcomes it.
