Economic governance. German and Italian Finance Ministers Wolfgang Schäuble and Pier Carlo Padoan will review the economic rulebook and discuss the way ahead with the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee. (Tuesday)
Money laundering. A deal on new legislation to fight money laundering, tax crimes and terrorist financing will be put to a vote in the Economic and Monetary Affairs and Civil Liberties committees. Under the deal concluded by EP and EU government negotiators, the ultimate owners of companies would have to be listed in central registers, which would be accessible to people with a “legitimate interest”, such as investigative journalists. Lead MEPs Krišjānis Kariņš and Judith Sargentini will hold a press conference at 15.30. (Tuesday)
Anti-terrorism measures. In the wake of recent terrorist attacks and threats, Commission representatives will present and discuss proposed new EU-wide anti-terrorism measures with MEPs during a short Brussels plenary session, starting at 15.00, on Wednesday. Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos, EU Anti-Terrorism Coordinator Gilles de Kerchove and representatives of the Raising Awareness Network (RAN) will brief the Civil Liberties Committee on “deradicalisation” and foreign fighters. EU fund for strategic investments. The Commission proposal for a new funding instrument to leverage €315 bn in private and public investment to boost growth and jobs, the so-called “Juncker-plan”, will be discussed with the Council and Commission during the plenary session. (Wednesday)
Commission Vice President Jyrki Katainen will discuss the proposed fund for strategic investments with the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee (Monday).
International climate agreement. A roadmap and preparations for reaching a global climate agreement in Paris by the end of 2015 will be debated in plenary session, late in the afternoon. (Wednesday)
Holocaust Remembrance Day. A ceremony marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day – 27 January – will be held in the European Parliament premises, where EP Vice President Antonio Tajani will deliver the opening speech. On the same occasion, EP President Martin Schulz will meet Knesset Speaker Yuli-Yoel Edelstein and deliver the closing speech at the special session of heads of state at the International Holocaust Remembrance Day in Prague (Czech Republic). (Tuesday)
President’s diary. EP President Schulz will meet chairman of the Senate of Pakistan Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari on Wednesday in Brussels.
