Vice-President Ansip in Slovakia to discuss digital priorities of upcoming Slovak EU Presidency
Tomorrow Vice-President Ansip, in charge of the Digital Single Market, will be in Bratislava, Slovakia, to discuss the programme of the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the EU, starting from 1 July 2016. Progress on the Digital Single Market strategy will be a priority. The Commission is half-way through the strategy now and all the remaining initiatives will be presented by the end of this year. Several proposals – such as the one allowing Europeans to travel in the EU with the films, books and music that they have bought at home (portability of legal content, see press release) – should be adopted by the European Parliament and the Council during the Slovak EU Presidency. Negotiations are also expected to advance on other initiatives such as recent proposals to boost e-commerce (press release). Vice-President Ansip will discuss these different files with Deputy Prime Minister for Investments, Peter Pellegrini; Minister of Transport, Construction and Regional Development, Roman Brecely; Minister of Economy, Peter Žiga; Minister of Culture,Marek Maďarič; and Minister of Education, Science, Research and Sport,Peter Plavčan. Vice-President Ansip will also meet with Ľuboš Blaha, Chairman of the European Affairs Committee of the National Council of the Slovak Republic and several Members of Parliament. He will participate in the opening of Conference ITAPA (Information Technologies and Public Administration) 2016 and in a discussion with stakeholders on the Digital Single Market and more specifically on e-commerce.
