What does the President of the European Parliament do?

The President of the European Parliament has a complex role. MEPs elect the President, who chairs plenary sessions and other important meetings, ensures Parliament respects its rules, signs legislation and the EU budget and represents the Parliament with other EU institutions and internationally.
