Charles Goerens is a Member of the European Parliament, member of the Committee on Development and of the Delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly. He was re-elected to the European Parliament in 2009 and again in 2014, having first served in 1982 and again in 1994. From 1999 to 2004, he was Minister for the Environment and Minister for Cooperation, Humanitarian Action and Defence of Luxembourg in the Juncker-Polfer government. In May 2013, Charles Goerens was appointed rapporteur on the legislative proposal “2015, European Year of Development Cooperation”.
