Konstantinos Vardakis holds a M.Sc. in Rural Engineering from the Louvain Catholic University and an M. Phil. in Development Economics from the University of Southampton. After having worked for the private sector in the Middle East, he joined the EU in 1988, and was subsequently posted as Attaché to the EU Delegations to Zimbabwe and Sudan before returning to EU Headquarters as Desk officer in the Central Africa Division. Further to assignments in the EU Delegations to Pakistan and Russia, he was appointed Senior Desk officer in the Central Asia Division and seconded to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus as Special Adviser to the Political Director. Konstantinos Vardakis is presently serving in the European External Action Service as Deputy Head in the Division in charge of the Eastern Partnership, regional cooperation and relations with the OSCE.
