Damien Meadows began his career working as a government lawyer responsible for aviation issues. He joined the Commission in the year 2000 and has been involved in drafting, negotiating and improving the EU’s carbon pricing system, the EU ETS, over the last twenty years, as well as other climate legislation. He was the Commission’s first Head of Unit for aviation, maritime and the international carbon market, and he returned to this role during the preparation and negotiation of the European Green Deal. He also worked on the REACH law that comprehensively reformed EU chemicals regulation, and for the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
