Micheal Theurer has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2009. From 2009 to 2014 he was a member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and from 2011 to 2012 he chaired the Committee on Budgetary Control, while from 2012 to 2014 he was a member of the Conference of Committee Chairs. Micheal Theurer has been a member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs since 2014, and is a full member of both of the Conference of Delegation Chairs and the Committee on Budgetary Control, as well as Chair of the Delegation for relations with Australia and New Zealand. In 2015 he was co-rapporteur of the Special Committee on Tax Rulings and Other Measures Similar in Nature or Effect (TAXE 1) and between 2015 and 2016 he was a member of the Special Committee on Tax Rulings and Other Measures Similar in Nature or Effect (TAXE 2). Since 2016, he has been the coordinator of the ALDE Group on the Committee of Inquiry to investigate alleged contraventions and maladministration in the application of Union law in relation to money laundering, tax avoidance and tax evasion. After beginning his career as a politician in the regional branch of the FDP, he became a member of FDP Federal Executive and, since 2013 he has been both a member of FDP Bureau and Federal Executive and Chair of the Regional Committee of the Baden-Württemberg FDP.
