Prof. Sofie Bekaert was trained as a biological engineer and a doctor in applied biological sciences. After ten years of research and while setting up a research platform on biological ageing, next generation sequencing and biomarkers, she became valorisation and innovation Advisor. Currently, she is the Head of the Clinical Research Center at the Ghent University Hospital. As the Head of Bimetra, she has the responsibility of over ~20 co-workers, managing the central point of contact for various aspects of translational research with special regards to bio-banking, trial unit, research and valorisation.
