Thomas Heynisch is Deputy Head of Unit in the European Commission’s Directorate General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, dealing with EU policies related to food, healthcare industries and biotechnology. He joined the Commission in 2000, when he was responsible for sustainable resources in DG ENVI and moved to DG Enterprise in 2002 in the unit dealing with competitiveness of the pharmaceutical industry and biotechnologies. Previously, Thomas Heynisch worked as a military physician and as a European affairs specialist at the German Association of Research-Based Pharmaceutical Manufacturers. He obtained a degree in Medicine and Economics from the University of Cologne and a Doctorate in Health Economics from the Heinrich Heine University.
